Carolynn Haydu's Bio:

Carolynn Haydu was born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Her first artistic influence was her Hungarian Grandfather who was a set builder for Hollywood studios. She received her BFA in Art Practice from UC Berkeley and her MFA from NYU. She has completed a public commission from the city of Berkeley and a private commission for Google’s AI headquarters.  She has shown her work with Hashimoto Contemporary, the Institute of Contemporary Art San Jose and the de Young museum. She is currently working with Milk Moon Gallery in Telluride, CO and Mag Galleries in San Francisco.

From Carolynn:

I create mixed media work with my own paintings on paper. The paintings are hand cut and reconfigured onto wood panel. While my work is abstract, it is inspired by natural landscapes, particularly California open spaces.

Guided by a rhythm of breaking and reforming, I construct paintings and installations through layered patterns and cut-out shapes. I am particularly intrigued by the concept of resurrection—creating something new from what was destroyed. The resulting patterns mimic the natural cycles of destruction and renewal inherent to California. By layering these patterns, I aim to reflect the stability of passing time found in granite, wood grain, and topography.
