Abby Rocha's Bio:

Abby Rocha(She/They) is a Chicanx artist and a parent from SoCal that has settled in the foggy coastal embrace of the East Bay. They create from the intersection of their Latinidad and the multifaceted subject of death as well as the world around them.

Her thesis, a self published five story compendium, “VOICES: A Comic Anthology on Immigrant Interviews, Stories, And Reflections.” solidified her path of art as activism. Her visual and writing practice has included creating comics and graphic essays for local and national publications, and their artwork has been shown in galleries and museums. She’s also a member of the collective, the East Bay BIPOC Cartoonists and has helped organize the public reading series, “HELLA COMIX” in the Bay Area, giving BIPOC indie artists a platform to read their original comix work.

In her spare time she also volunteers as an art teacher in her community. She is currently working on her teaching credential and her debut graphic novel, “Hearts in Mictlan”.

Details on Activity for May 8 - Food Memory Zine Workshop:

The Mexican dicho, “Panza llena, corazón contento” is about the happiness one feels after a good meal and those moments are extra special when surrounded by those we love.

In this workshop we will be learning how to make a short 8 page food memory zine about your favorite meal, food gathering or food moment while focusing also on the people, community and/or culture connected to that meal. You can draw, doodle, collage or even write to create your unique mini magazine and take it home as a personal keepsake or learn to reproduce it and share with others.
